Volunteers wanted - bike parking
Sunday 2 March
Newtown Festival
New bike lanes and more people biking means high demand for bike parking at Newtown Festival. Festival organiser Martin has invited us to help with bike parking.
Specifically, we're looking for 8 people from 8-10am, working in pairs, to be Bike Parking Ambassadors.
Job description
- wear your Cycle Wellington t shirt or hoodie
- set up racks and welcome people arriving by bike, 8-10am
- help people lock bikes in a secure and space-efficient way, to metal racks
- 4 sites: Newtown School, Rintoul Street, Constable Street, Russell Terrace
- invite people to join and support Cycle Wellington
Please let [email protected] know if you can help. Thanks!
Do you ride to Karori?
WCC wants to hear from you!
"The Karori Connections bike, bus, and pedestrian improvements are now mostly complete. We want to know how everyone is finding the changes and how we might make them even better.
We've set up a quick online form where you can let us know how you're finding the changes and make suggestions about small adjustments you think could be made. Sharing your feedback should take about 3-5 minutes. This form is just one of many ways we have been hearing from the local community during the course of these changes.”
Please share your experience and suggestions for how the route might be improved even more. Also - check out Cycle Wellington’s Karori Connections video:
Fundraising for Movement
We deserve safe speeds.
Please make a donation to support Movement's legal action to stop the Government's new Speed rule from reversing recently-implemented safer speed limits. Share and encourage your family and friends to do the same. Higher speeds worsen the wellbeing of everyone on our roads, not just people on bikes.

The Cargo Bike Picnic is back!
12 noon February 23 2025
Waitangi Park - Shorland Park
Join the Bicycle Junction team at Shorland Park in Island Bay on Sunday, February 23, from 12pm to 3pm. Bring your cargo bikes, ebikes, bike trailers, kids seats, tag-alongs, box bikes, swimsuits and more. It's a chance to get to know the other commuters and parents you've seen pedaling 1, 2 or 3 kids around Wellington by bike.
What’s Happening?
• 12: Depart Waitangi Park for Shorland Park
• 12-1pm: Meet / Arrive at Shorland Park
• 1pm–3pm: BBQ, music and activities for the kids
Share your favourite life hacks for hauling kiddos, trade tips with curious families, and let your friends test out some demo cargo bikes. It’s all about fun, community, and a love of getting around by bike!
Supercharge your bike advocacy at CAN DO 2025
22-23 March 2025
Tūranga Cathedral Square, Ōtautahi Christchurch
Welcome to CAN Do, CAN's get-together. The weekend includes workshops, training, rides, plenty of food and drink, and a chance to catch up with fellow bike advocates from around New Zealand
The critical component is networking and making connections with other like minded people from across the motu. This is an excellent opportunity to share stories, learn and become a better advocate.
Reminder: Go By Bike Day 2025 cancelled due to Government funding cuts
After the current Government severely cut road safety, cycling, and walking funding to local Councils, Wellington City Council has paused its funding of Go By Bike Day.
Thankfully you can still go by bike any day you like!
Next Cycle Wellington Meeting

Evans Bay
The Hataitai Beach seawall is already under construction. Construction of the remainder of the route to progress will follow completion of the more demanding engineering parts.
Brooklyn Road
Currently on hold for at least 12 months. New consultation may be required if design is significantly different due to the less favourable priorities from the Government.
Thorndon Quay
Construction continues. Some people have been observed riding the 2-way section northbound - please refrain from doing this until the route is complete and crossings to use it safely are in place.
Berhampore to Newtown
Excitingly, the final connection to this route is currently in construction along Luxford Street and the southern end of Rintoul Street. Once complete, this will finally connect the cycling route from the city to the sea.
